About
Have you ever eaten a meal that later made you feel nauseous, bloated or gave you a headache? Do you know what you ate that made you feel so bad? It turns out that there are a lot of things in processed food that you might not be expecting and if you don’t read the labels carefully, you’d never know.
In 2008, I started a blog called Kristi’s Farm to Table (formerly Austin Farm to Table) to write about my experience of cooking dishes from ingredients I bought at the local farmers market. I didn’t set out with the intention to give up processed food, but that’s what happened. Slowly but surely, as I bought more things from local farms and food artisans, I bought less and less processed food.
Changing the way I eat has changed my life. I feel better, have more energy and am sick less often. I know most of the people I buy my food from, and I love visiting with them and learning knew things from them. I’ve created Ditch the Box to share with you the simple steps that you can implement at home to do the same. I learned the hard way, mostly through trial and error, and have paved the way so you can have a smoother road to a fresher life.
There are a few things that I’m not. I’m not a doctor or nutritionist. I’m a writer who has personally been through this process and done a lot of research. If you have special dietary needs or health concerns, I can help connect you to the right person, but I’m not your best resource. I will be including posts and interviews from nutritionists and specialists to share the technical information that you might need.
